Twice Dark’s album “Telekinetic”: A Haunting Fusion of Synthpop and Goth Rock

The fourth album from Bloomington-based darkwave artist Twice Dark, Telekinetic, is a dark and dreamy blend of gothic rock, synthpop, and electronic. Seven of the nine songs share the common theme of extra-sensory perception, sort of a metaphor for the labyrinth of life on this club-friendly darkwave album of intense introspection and songcraft.

Though rooted in the electro-goth musical energies, Twice Dark is willing in this album to cross over to the synthpop field without losing that quintessential moody emotion. From the driving darkwave beats to the ethereal electronic textures, the album is imbued with an integral blend of haunting vocals, thick layers of synths, and dark basslines.

Each song builds upon one another to give the album an overall atmosphere of otherworldliness tinged with shadowy mystery and transcendent spiritedness. With crisp, immersive production resulting from recording at Postal Recording in Indianapolis, collaborators and remixers add to the richness of this effort, making Telekinetic an alluring listen for followers of Joy Division, Depeche Mode, and the current wave of modern synthwave artists.

Telekinetic is an ostentatiously dark and dreamy album that elegantly pushes the realm between goth and synthpop.
