Josie Lockhart’s Album “What Golden Hues”: A Soulful Blend of Americana and Modern Rock

Josie Lockhart’s sophomore album, What Golden Hues, is a heartfelt journey through nostalgia, self-reflection, and musical evolution. With 11 tracks, the Austin-based artist, born Aaron Miller, crafts an expansive sonic landscape that seamlessly merges Americana, heartland rock, and synth-infused

The album is deeply personal, shaped by Miller’s time in Durango, Colorado, where he wrote the songs in isolation. This introspective process shines through in tracks like "The Heat," a cowboy-tinged anthem inspired by the vast southwestern landscape. Throughout What Golden Hues, Miller’s evocative storytelling is paired with steel guitar, Wurlitzer, and atmospheric synths, resulting in a rich, cinematic sound.

Following the DIY approach of his debut, What Golden Hues, Miller took a more collaborative route with this record, enlisting producer Modern Medicine and mixing engineer Steve Christensen (known for his work with Khruangbin and Leon Bridges). The result is a polished yet organic album that feels both contemporary and timeless. The influences of Bruce Springsteen, Lucinda Williams, and Townes Van Zandt are evident, yet Miller carves out a distinct voice of his own.

Standout tracks like "What Golden Hues" and "The Heat" capture themes of identity and longing, while the album’s production brings warmth and depth to each melody. It’s a record that invites listeners to reminisce, dream, and embrace life’s uncertainties with an open heart.
