Hunter Cassidy's "Telephone": A Lovers' Ballad for Rings Not Called Back

Dallas' new singer-songwriter, Hunter Cassidy, has thrown everything at him in his new single, Telephone. The tearful track is one of three singles in preparation for his long-awaited EP, DAYDREAM. With its stripped-back arrangement and naked narrative, Telephone will resonate with everyone who's ever had unrequited love and painful unanswered phone calls.

The message in the song can resonate with everyone. Cassidy expresses disappointment in yelling out to one who mattered and receiving nothing but a voice message in return. Composed in 15 minutes, Telephone is an unfiltered and raw emotion derived out of heartache and disappointment in his life. It is not a break-up record, but a love letter to anyone who feels disregarded, and in listening, feels heard and heard out.

Telephone keeps it simple yet effective. Acoustic guitar, performed in one continuous, uncut performance, creates an organic and intimate sound for the track. Cassidy's raw and emotive voice brings out even deeper emotion in the tune, creating a heartstring-pulling yet sweet melody long after the final note is sounded. Production, completed in a makeshift studio in a garage, simply adds to the reality of the track and proves big sound doesn’t have to mean big production, but real emotion and truthful tales.

Looking ahead, Cassidy has ambitious plans for his music career. With a fall tour on the horizon and two more singles leading up to DAYDREAM, he is ready to make his mark on the industry. Telephone is just the beginning, a song that reminds us of the universal pain of feeling unheard and the healing power of music.
