Clare Easdown's "Rebel Hearts": Anthem for Misfits and Individuality

Clare Easdown, a skilled singer and music producer from Menai, Australia, has established a unique presence in the music industry with her mix of genres and genuine authenticity. In her most recent single, "Rebel Hearts", she bravely explores new territory in her artistry by incorporating Post-Punk and Political Punk elements to create a song that honors outsiders and questions cultural norms.

Recorded in her humble home, Rebel Hearts captures Clare's ethos of self-expression and rebellion against perfectionism. Known for her previous work in Trap and Trip-Hop, this new direction sees Clare stepping out of her comfort zone, venturing into Punk territory for the first time.

Inspired by iconic punk bands like Bikini Kill, Fugazi, and Amyl and The Sniffers, Clare channels a DIY spirit in both the production and theme of Rebel Hearts. In a world where music is often polished to perfection, Clare intentionally leaves imperfections in the track to embrace the beauty of raw, unfiltered artistry.

She recorded her vocals quickly and simply on an iPhone, using free software, intentionally leaving in timing and pitch mistakes.  The outcome is a song that exudes intimacy, authenticity and embraces its imperfections without apology.

The accompanying music video, featuring footage of Clare’s girlfriend skateboarding, mirrors the song’s themes.   The skater's incorporation of common street items into their routines, regardless of the outcome, exemplifies a rebellious attitude and a desire to challenge societal conventions. The combination of the video and song sends a strong message: you can make art or communicate your feelings without conforming to society's standards.

The heart of Rebel Hearts lies in its message of empowerment and individuality. It is a song for individuals who feel like they do not belong or choose not to comply. Clare aims for listeners to believe in their ability to create art, produce music, or simply accept themselves without being hindered by societal norms.

In Rebel Hearts, Clare Easdown delivers an inspiring track that goes beyond the typical music-making process. It is a rough, unfinished work of art that promotes defiance, uniqueness, and self-esteem in not fitting in. As Clare pushes the limits with her music, Rebel Hearts cements her position as an artist who isn't afraid to defy conventions.
